University Service

 

  • Helped to cultivate “Grow Your Own Program” working with local K-12 educators to further their post-secondary education and pedagogical knowledge, while also increasing University enrollment numbers

  • Served on the Division of Health, Education, and Social Work’s Curriculum Committee, reviewing program offerings and course proposals, making recommendations for curricular improvements, and ensuring alignment within the unit, division, and college goals, missions, and priorities

  • Served on the Division of Health, Education, and Social Work’s Interdepartmental Collaboration Committee, designed and staged Interdepartmental Collaboration Day with simulated IEP meetings for education students

  • Met with official delegation from Aruba, helping to form a partnership between the University of the District of Columbia and the Aruba Pedagogical Institute

  • Designed a new course, Introduction to Gifted Education, to help urban teachers recognize the unique characteristics and needs of advanced learners in their classrooms

 

Representation of Institution through Community Outreach

 

  • Sponsored a partnership between the Jazz Archives at the University of the District of Columbia and the music teachers within the District of Columbia Public Schools by creating lesson plans for teachers that utilized the wealth of materials held within the Jazz Archives

  • Designed and implemented activities that taught elementary students about acoustics to represent the college at community STEAM events

  • Worked numerous community events at university/college information events

 

 

Education Advocacy Work

 

  • Worked with professional lobbyists within the United States Capitol, meeting with Congressional Minority Whip’s office

  • Met with congressmen, senators, and their staff in Washington, DC on behalf of Save the Children’s literacy building programs within the United States

 

Supporting Education at Local K-12 School Level

 

  • Conducted detailed analysis of current gifted instructional practices, creating a report outlining the beginnings of a gifted program for k-12 schools

  • Created materials for schools to distribute to parents and community members explaining the school’s culture and guiding principles

Grant Writing

 

Chan Zuckerberg Initiative

  • Served as primary researcher for project, overseeing small research teem

  • Collected data from various qualitative sources, including surveys, interviews, and classroom observations

  • Wrote evaluative report for participating school, providing findings, interpretations, and guidance for future research needs

  • Wrote final report for Chan Zuckerberg Initiative grant committee, providing findings and answering specific questions asked by the grant committee

 

Jacob Javits Gifted and Talented Children Federal Grant

  • Coded and aligned all qualitative data during the final data analysis phase of the grant funded research project. This analyzed data was then used by the primary investigators to prepare the study’s final report for the federal grant committee

University of Denver, Morgridge College of Education Research Grant

  • Identified prospective participants for a high-performing high-poverty schools research project, conducted interviews, coded interview transcripts, and coauthored a report that was published and presented at the American Association of Teaching and Curriculum conference
